Nomenclature of the course: Certificate in the Education of Children with Special Needs

 

Mode: Distance

 

Duration: Six Months

 

Preamble

 

Education enables children to adapt themselves to the society and their culture. The school curricula are set to fulfill this objective for normal children. Education of the disabled children requires special attention. In the rural India and remote areas there is a vast need for adequately trained and rightly oriented personnel.

 

Community Based Rehabilitation training programmes offered by Bangalore University   in collaboration with CBR NETWORK and other institutes under approval from RCI are preparing a large number of personnel to work in the rural areas.

 

Most of the CBR personnel can also work as special and resource teachers if they have an opportunity to get some additional training. Similarly there are other rehabilitation personnel who may be interested in education sector.

 

There are many common contents in Diploma in CBR and PG Diploma in CBR and in different special education training courses developed by Rehabilitation council of India.

 

Therefore in order to meet the requirement in the unreached areas RCI has prepared the “Add –on Courses in special education”.

General Objectives

To prepare resource teachers at pre-primary (Nursery, Kindergarten etc.) and primary (I to IV – lower primary and V to VII – upper primary) levels to serve in the following settings:

i)                    Remedial education centers/Special schools

ii)                   Integrated \ Inclusive setup

iii)      Open school system study centers and home based education

 

Knowledge related objectives 

To build adequate knowledge in the following areas:

  • Various aspects of special needs its impact and  management

§         Key aspects of education like goals, function, technology and emerging trends

  • Educational needs of the children with children with special needs and their management
  • Details of planning and executing curricular and co-curricular activities
  • Methods and techniques of used in special education
  • Various areas of child development and the relevant mental processes
  • To be able to see the above mentioned aspects in the light of  Indian context

 

Skill related objectives

To develop skills and competencies in the following areas: 

1)                  Personal, professional & social competencies & skills required in teachers,

2)                  Introduction to general curriculum

3)                  Subject teaching as per requirement,

4)                  Development and adaptation of instructional materials,

5)                  Evaluation of the students, teacher and the educational programme,

6)                  Planning and executing lessons (individualized and group),

7)                  Classroom management techniques,

8)                  Individual and group parent interaction,

 

Attitude related objectives

To develop desirable attitudes towards following issues:

1)                  Role and need of education in the modern world

2)                  Teaching profession and role of teachers in changing society

3)                  Guiding children and solving their academic/behavior problems

4)                  Educational and communication related potentials of children with children with special needs

 

Eligibility

 

Students who have successfully completed Diploma in CBR, PG Diploma in CBR, MRW, Bridge Course Certificate holders (conducted by RCI) or any other RCI recognized rehabilitation courses (having minimum 10+2 or equivalent qualification) with one year work experience in disability field post-qualification are eligible to apply.
